What is Tinnitus?
According to Wikipedia, Tinnitus is the perception of sound within the human ear in the absence of corresponding external sound. The term tinnitus derives from the Latin word tinnire, meaning to ring.They are best described as a “whooshing sound”, “beeping sound”, “crickets”, and many others. Generally, they are NOISES. Some claim that they are not as distracting, but the unlucky others claim otherwise. Tinnitus could just be a result of the underlying sickness one could have, they could be intermittent or worse, they could be ceaseless.
The brain’s tendency to select out loudest sounds heard are the reason why we can measure tinnitus. Based on the brain’s tendency, we can play sample sounds of known amplitude then ask the patient which sound he hears. There are two types of Tinnitus, the SUBJECTIVE TINNITUS (The noise is only in your head) and the OBJECTIVE TINNITUS (your doctor could hear the noise in your ear with the help of a special instrument). What are the causes of Tinnitus? Tinnitus could just be a symptom from a number of underlying variables such as ear infection, wax in the ear and ear damage due to loud noises, aspirins, lead or mercury poisoning, middle ear effusion, and others Can Tinnitus be cured? Of course they can be! There are many ways to cure your Tinnitus. First, have your their earwax plug cleaned, then avoid caffeine and alcohol or you could undergo a surgery. Don’t forget to set your MP3’s to MODERATE and avoid going to places with loud noises (music, etc) that could harm your ears. Remember, relaxation can also help since some people with tinnitus find their symptoms worse with stress. And only do self care/ treatment alone after you’ve seen your doctor.
